Clinton Levels Sharp Criticism at the President's Relief Effort - New York Times

Clinton Levels Sharp Criticism at the President's Relief Effort - New York Times: "Former President Bill Clinton, asked by President Bush to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, offered harsh criticism of the administration's disaster-relief effort on Sunday, saying 'you can't have an emergency plan that works if it only affects middle-class people up.'"

I am glad that Bill Clinton is speaking out right now. He is a very effective communicator who has always stood up for the poor people of America. I agree with what he said. Its really too bad that Bill Clinton can't run for President again. I am sure that he could win. I like Hillary Clinton and I think that she would make a good President, but I am not sure that she has the charisma to be elected President. Unfortunately, there are few Democrats with a level of charisma that is even close to Bill's. I just hope that one emerges that can win! In the shorter term, I hope that Bush's current level of unpopularity will lead to losses of seats in the House and Senate in the upcoming November elections. That could put up some road blocks against further Bush administration stupidity and incompetence.

David,

I was wondering what you think of John Edwards...charisma wise.

Pantea,

Thank you for reminding me of John Edwards. For some reason, he was not that memorable to me since the last Presidential election. I found him to be a rather complex man of depth and substance. He does have a certain very strong charisma, but in some ways it seemed a bit false to me. I remember thinking, as I watched his behavior during the Democratic Convention that nominated Kerry/Edwards, that his huge smiles and big thumbs up seemed kind of disingenuous. Bill Clinton has the ability to project himself in a way that seems honest and genuine. I didn't really get that same feeling from Edwards. Perhaps Edwards will seek the Democratic Presidential nomination again. If so, I will certainly take another look at him.

Are you familiar with Barack Obama? He is a U.S. Senator from Illinois. He is of mixed ancestry, partly African (his father is from Kenya). His mother, interestingly, is not only White, she is a decendent of the Civil War era leader of the Confederacy! He is still rather young, but he is really quite impressive. I have no doubt that he will some day run for President, and possibly win. Here is a link to the Wikipedia article on Barack Obama. I just read it and learned a few things. Perhaps you will also find it interesting.
