Iranians in Iraq's election_ I believe this!

"Another problem is the selling of ballots. We're getting our ballots through the people who give out the food rations in the varying areas. The whole family is registered with this person(s) and the ages of the varying family members are known. Many, many, many people are not going to vote. Some of those people are selling their voting cards for up to $400. The word on the street is that these ballots are being bought by people coming in from Iran. They will purchase the ballots, make false IDs (which is ridiculously easy these days) and vote for SCIRI or Daawa candidates. Sunnis are receiving their ballots although they don't intend to vote, just so that they won't be sold. "

I actually read River's post a couple of days ago, but I'm glad that you mentioned it. Iraq is still a mess. Responsible Sunni leaders have been asking for a postponement of the elections for weeks now. I think that these leaders really want their people to participate. They understand that Sunni Iraqis will be better off if they have a voice in the future of Iraq. However, Bush seems determined to force ahead with the elections at any cost. He seems to imagine that things will get better in Iraq if there is an election as soon as possible. This is rediculous! This election will surely be completely dominated by Iraqi Shia voters, and as River says, to some extent, by agents from Iran. How will this help to stabilize Iraq? I do not think that it will. also, it is not a big surprise to me that some people are selling their voting cards. Right now, many Iraqis are just trying to survive, and $400 will buy them a lot of food to eat and fuel to cook with or to heat their homes.

David,

I am not surprised to hear even more from Iranians. They have been doing this since the war in Iraq started. And to be honest I don't blame the regime for doing it.They are smart. They knew that if the United State succeeds in Iraq, Iran would be the next target. This way they guaranteed the hassle for America for at least couple of years. Of course this does not mean that I approve my government in general or their supports to random groups in the region. But if I want to be realistic for Iran they have been smart about this. But if they are smart enough they will deal with the United States in the time that they have bought for themselves. Hopefully!
